National Youth Leadership Training is a six-day outdoor experience for youth leaders. It supports the Scout leader responsibility to train youth leaders. Participants sleep in tents, prepare their own meals by patrols, learn life skills, and live by the Scout Oath and Law. Training youth leaders is a critical component for helping individual Scouts and Scout Units to grow. The Boy Scouts of America developed the National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) course, a valuable learning experience for educating youth leaders. The Great Southwest Council offers NYLT annually.

Requirements for joining us at NYLT this summer are ...

 

Scouts BSA: 

Be registered with a Troop 

Be at least 13 years old (and have not turned 18 before the last day of the course)

Be at least a First Class Scout

Have a current BSA Health and Medical Record form parts A, B, and C

Have taken Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)

Have Unit Leader approval 

Attend one of the mandatory virtual orientations prior to the course**

 

Venturers/Sea Scouts: 

Be registered with a Crew or Ship 

Be at least 14 years old (or 13 and have completed the eighth grade and have not turned 21 before the last day of the course)

Have a current BSA Health and Medical Record form parts A, B, and C

Have taken either Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews or Ships (ILSC or ILSS) 

Have Unit Leader approval 

Attend one of the mandatory virtual orientations prior to the course**

 

 In order to attend NYLT the following steps must be completed:

  1. Register and pay on this website. The total fee is $365, with $50 deposit due on registration.
  2. Complete and return the application by following the link noted on the receipt.
  3. Have Unit Leader send recommendation for Scout to gswcnylt@gmail.com.
  4. Complete BSA Medical Form Parts A, B, & C, with doctor’s signature. Contact Health Officer Jeremy Ziegler at jwzig@msn.com with any health issues. Otherwise, take the form to check-in.
  5. Attend one of the MANDATORY on-line orientation sessions.
    1. June 19th or June 30th
    2. Zoom invite will be sent once application and Scoutmaster recommendation have been received.
  6. Pay in full by July 1st
