As Scouts, we know how fortunate we are to have a warm meal every night — whether around the campfire or at the kitchen table. And we know that not everyone is so lucky.

Families across New Mexico and Colorado rely on Roadrunner Food Bank and other Food Banks to help put food on their tables. And they have come to expect Scout collecting food for Scouting for Food, the annual food-collection drive run by the Great Southwest Council and Scouting units throughout our communities. It’s another reminder to our local communities that Scouts are here, doing good turns.

Scouting for Food will take place on February 2, 2018. We have partnered up with Smith’s Food & Drug and will set up in front of the stores to collect non-perishable food and cash donations. We have setup a SignUpGenius signup sheet with all Smith’s Food & Drug locations in the Albuquerque metro area. Units are asked to sign up for a 3 hour time slot at the location of their choice. If your first location is not available, please consider covering another Smith’s location. Remember, we are doing a good turn for our community and would like to have all Smith’s stores covered by units. Last year we had a record collections from units that participated, don’t be that unit that didn’t help out this year. The link to the SignUpGenius is listed below.  Please look through the complete list. The morning shifts are listed first, then the afternoon shifts are listed. If you have any questions, please contact Bryan Nigg at 505-270-7411 or at

All food and cash donations are given to local Food Banks and help needy families throughout the council’s borders.
